The Expanders – the Los Angeles-based roots reggae powerhouse band – began this project earlier this past summer, before Toots Hibbert became sick with coronavirus (which eventually took his life in September). They had been asked to record cover versions of two of their favorite Toots & The Maytals classics for an impending month-long celebration of Hibbert’s life and career that was happening on Rootfire.net in September. “STAY” BY THE STEPPAS IS OUT NOW

FINDING COMMON GROUND: THE STEPPAS MOVE PAST TRAGEDY BY COLLABORATING WITH JAMAICA’S PHILLIP McFARLANE AND OTHER TOP MUSICIANS Hawaiian Reggae band The Steppas released their new single “Stay” on October 9th via Easy Star Records. The song marks a return to recording for the band, who dealt with a number of close tragedies in 2019 and 2020, which almost stopped the band from continuing entirely.
