SunDub
Formed in Brooklyn, New York, SunDub is a five-piece band that blends classic reggae rhythms with elements of soul and blues. Anchored by the brother-and-sister team of lead vocalist Joanna Teters and drummer Ben Teters, the group's core lineup also features guitarist Finn Singer, bassist Josh T Carter, and keyboardist Eric "The General" Toussaint. Driven by a tight rhythm section and Joanna's distinctly soulful vocal delivery, the quintet honors the foundations of traditional Jamaican music while bringing their own sophisticated arrangements to the genre. The band established their initial sound and built a dedicated live following with the independent release of their 2019 debut album, Burden of Love. Beyond their musical output, the group actively utilizes their platform to advocate for social change, teach music to New York City youth, and collaborate with non-profit organizations.
Following the momentum of their debut, SunDub aligned with Easy Star Records for their sophomore full-length album, Spirits Eat Music, released in late 2022. Recorded at a remote studio in Kauai, Hawaii, and co-produced by veteran reggae keyboardist Sidney Mills of Steel Pulse, the project balances personal themes of love and loss with optimistic reflections on a changing world. The album yielded several standout singles that highlight the band's collaborative reach, including the Lutan Fyah-assisted "Jump and Dance" and "New Ways to Love," featuring Grammy-winning vocalist Peetah Morgan. The record served as a comprehensive statement of the band's evolving sound, fusing heavy roots reggae instrumentation with contemporary lyrical themes.
SunDub has continued to expand their catalog with Easy Star Records through a diverse series of collaborative and specialized projects. In 2025, the band spearheaded the Brooklyn Riddim compilation, a multi-part release that invited a mix of international artists, including Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, The Meditations, and the Easy Star All-Stars, to provide their own vocal interpretations over an original SunDub instrumental. Later that same year, the group commemorated the third anniversary of their sophomore album by teaming up with iconic dub engineer Scientist for Spirits Eat Music (Scientist Versions). The project features reimagined, heavy dub remixes of pivotal tracks from the record, recontextualizing the band's studio recordings and firmly embedding them within the wider traditions of Jamaican dub music.
