Rik Jam

Born Ronaldo Ricketts in the Fletcher’s Land community of Kingston, Jamaica, Rik Jam’s music is built on a foundation of church singing and high school choir rehearsals. His early years were shaped by the rich cultural tapestry of his neighborhood and the personal weight of losing his mother as a teenager—a transition that saw him move to Stadium Gardens and lean into music as a source of resilience. It was during a high school band competition that he met producer Phillip McFarlane, sparking a long-term collaboration rooted in a shared respect for the message-driven tradition of roots reggae. Rik Jam’s sound is defined by its soulfulness and a commitment to positive, conscious storytelling. After building a following with singles like "Ready Fi Dem" and "Hail The King," he released his debut album, The Genesis, in August 2025. The project is a reflection of his personal journey, touching on themes ranging from spiritual devotion to the daily navigation of inner-city life. His approach is less about chasing trends and more about using his voice as a vessel for emotion, aiming to keep listeners grounded through music that feels authentic to the Jamaican experience. Now a fixture on the international festival circuit, Rik Jam continues to bridge the gap between foundation reggae and modern influences on stages like Reggae Rise Up and the Austin Reggae Festival. Whether he’s collaborating with artists like Eric Rachmany or performing solo, his focus remains on consistency and staying "clean" with his lyrical content. By pairing traditional roots vibes with contemporary energy, he has carved out a space as a steady, uplifting voice in the modern reggae scene.
