Tampa Riddim (Set 3)

With TAMPA RIDDIM (SET 3), keyboardist and producer Paris La Mont presents the final installment of his juggling project, bridging foundational roots reggae with contemporary production techniques. The series initially launched with “Burn It To The Ground” by Mortimer, establishing a sonic baseline that ties the project to the broader roots tradition present in the Easy Star Records catalog. Echoing the label's output with acts like The Skints and Rebelution, La Mont's arrangements provide a steady, adaptable foundation constructed specifically to support a varied lineup of vocalists.

This third set focuses on three emerging singers, each offering a distinct interpretation of the core groove. Kamrun opens with "Welcome 2 Tampa," utilizing the pulsing bassline to drive a rhythmic, uptempo delivery. Justice the Artiste shifts the mood on "Eyes To The Hills," opting for a more meditative, conscious approach that highlights the open, atmospheric qualities of the mix. Closing out the vocal contributions is Jahbradez with "It Ain't Easy," grounding the track with observational lyrics that play off La Mont's driving arrangement. The sequence highlights the mechanics of the juggling format, showing how a single instrumental framework adapts to varying vocal cadences and thematic directions.

The EP concludes with the "TAMPA RIDDIM Overture," an instrumental version that strips away the vocals to focus on the underlying studio work. The track features structural contributions from Okiel McIntyre and Zoe McIntyre, as well as guitar tracking by Zuggu Dan. Dan's inclusion creates another connection to the extended Easy Star network, intersecting with his ongoing work alongside Protoje and the In.Digg.Nation collective. By letting the rhythm section stand alone, the overture serves as a functional breakdown of the groove, positioning La Mont's project as a direct link between traditional Jamaican juggling formats and modern roots production.
