Courtney P

Courtney Panton Jr., known as Courtney P, is the drummer and vocalist of the Brooklyn-based reggae band New Kingston. Alongside his brothers Tahir (keyboards) and Stephen "Suckarie" (guitar), the Panton family has been a driving force in modern reggae since forming the group in 2006. Their father, Courtney Panton Sr., a first-generation Jamaican-American bassist, founded the band and guided his sons' musical development from an early age. New Kingston's sound blends their Jamaican roots with the energy of urban Brooklyn, fusing reggae with elements of R&B, hip-hop, and dancehall — a style they call "Reggae Crossover." Known for his dynamic stage presence, Courtney Jr. sings, raps, and keeps the rhythm behind the kit, often serving as the band's spokesperson. New Kingston's 2015 album Kingston City reached #1 on Billboard's Reggae chart, and the band has performed at major festivals including California Roots, Reggae on the River, and Summer Jam in Germany. Courtney P has also contributed as a solo featured artist on projects including Unified Highway's Headlines album (with Rebelution's Eric Rachmany and Amp Live) released on Easy Star Records in 2020.
