Mortimer, one of Jamaica’s fastest rising artists, is proud to announce the release of his new single “Careful,” out October 19. The single was produced at Tuff Gong Studios with acclaimed musician/producer/label head Winta James (Damian Marley, Protoje, Chronixx) for Winta’s Overstand Entertainment imprint in partnership with Easy Star Records.

“Careful” is a cautionary tale, with Mortimer drawing on personal experiences as he ponders trust and betrayal amongst family and friendships. With heavy drum and bass, and fuzzy distorted guitars, the instrumental provides a dark, aggressive backdrop to Mortimer’s sobering and evocative lyrics. Mortimer states, “I wrote this song to express my own experiences with friends and family. I’ve learned that people aren’t always what they seem, and blood doesn’t necessarily mean family. We need to stop confusing loving someone with loving an idea of someone, and the sooner we can tell the two apart will be the day we start to learn to love more authentically.” He adds, “This record was produced by myself and Winta James, who is not only one of the best producers I know, but also one of the few people in my life I consider family.”

Mortimer’s enthralling voice was recently featured with Protoje on the track “Truths & Rights” from the album A Matter of Time (Easy Star) and Protoje’s previous album Ancient Future on the “Protection” track. Both albums were produced by Winta James whose impressive production credits include Damian Marley, Rebelution, Chronixx, Alborosie, Kiko Bun, Ady Suleiman, Jesse Royal, Kabaka Pyramid, and more.

Mortimer is an artist to watch as the promising singer is equally comfortable creating traditional roots reggae as well as contemporary Jamaican music, who dances between the two to reveal a sound that blends his old-soul sensibilities with a progressive youthfulness.
