On December 27, 2022, the reggae world lost one of its great up-and-coming stars when JO MERSA MARLEY passed away unexpectedly. Jo Mersa had been a close friend of JESSE ROYAL’s (and had collaborated on the popular song “Generation” from Jesse’s debut album), and his passing shocked the GRAMMY-nominated singer to his core.

Jesse Royal has now responded to this tragedy with a powerful song called “Blessing,” emphasizing that “your greatest possession is life.” Jesse says, “This song is a reminder of the brevity and beauty of life. Living is the longest thing we will ever do. This song is also a cry to love. A pure and perfect love. The same love that life provides.” Jesse wrote and created the song with Jo Mersa’s brother, YOHAN MARLEY, adding extra poignancy to this track that emerged from such sadness and pain.

“Blessing” was produced by Dretegs, who also produced a track on Jesse’s GRAMMY-nominated ROYAL album.
