JBB RETURNS WITH KINGS AND QUEENS IN DUB
"Almost two years to the day after releasing the beloved Kings And Queens - which topped the Billboard Reggae Chart and reconfirmed John Brown’s Body’s status as one of the most influential American reggae bands - JBB returns with KINGS AND QUEENS IN DUB. Taking inspiration from landmark dub albums by Burning Spear, Aswad, and others, the new release features the entire sequence from Kings And Queens mixed by a who’s who of dub champions including Ticklah, Dubmatix, Dubfader (of 10 Ft. Ganja Plant), UK legend Dennis Bovell, Yesking, Michael G (of Easy Star All-Stars), Lord Echo (of The Black Seeds), and more.

While the band has been working on new material for an upcoming release loosely scheduled for this fall, saxophonist Drew Sayers worked closely with Easy Star Records founders Eric Smith and Lem Oppenheimer to put together this album. John Brown’s Body had previously released the 2012 EP JBB IN DUB and had a number of great instrumental dub tracks in their catalog, but this release marks the first time the band has attempted to do a complete dub version of one of their full existing albums.

The dub collaborators give a good sense of the currently growing global dub scene, hailing from areas of the world including the UK, Canada, New Zealand, and the USA. Ticklah, Dubmatix, Michael G and Dubfader are good representatives of the current vanguard from North America, each with past collaborations with JBB in their history. Dennis Bovell and Yesking both represent the UK, Bovell of course as one of the most influential dub artists ever, having started his career with Matumbi, and eventually producing much of Linton Kwesi Johnson’s output, along with helping to define the sound of UK lovers rock in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s.

A first track from the record, “Pulsing Dub,” which was mixed by Yesking, is being premiered by Boomshots on February 25th, and the track will be made available to fans via John Brown’s Body’s SoundCloud page, which has over 2 million followers. The album itself will be available via pre-order at iTunes, including two tracks instantly available to anyone who pre-orders.

John Brown’s Body has a handful of major tour dates coming up, including an appearance at California Roots Festival in Monterey, CA, which has become one of the biggest events in the US reggae calendar each year, as well as a record release show at Brooklyn Bowl in Brooklyn, NY, which will also include a DJ set from Ticklah.

REBELUTION'S COUNT ME IN REMIX EP OUT NOW
"Rebelution had a milestone year in 2014 with the release of their fourth studio album, Count Me In, which was the #1 selling album for the year on the Billboard Reggae chart, and their first co-released with Easy Star Records. 2015 kick starts right where they left off, with the announcement of their Count Me In Remix EP featuring Iration, The Green, J Boog, Katchafire, Dub Architect, Michael Goldwasser, Marshall "Ras MG" Goodman and Yeti Beats, available on January 20th.

The Remix EP features 5 tracks, with all proceeds being donated to WeCareSolar, Lupus Foundation of America, Jacob's Heart Children's Cancer Support and the SurfRider Foundation. Adding to the album version which features a collaboration with Jamaican Reggae legend and Rebelution-influencer Don Carlos, "Roots Reggae Music" gets a super dub treatment courtesy of Dub Architect and an extra verse from tour mates Katchafire. "Hate To Be The One" is reimagined by Easy Star Records' in-house superproducer Michael Goldwasser, and Sublime collaborator Marshall "Ras MG" Goodman offers up remixes of album favorites "Count Me In" and "De-Stress." Yeti Beats adds some more bounce to the anti-materialism anthem "More Love," featuring frequent collaborators and tour mates Iration, J Boog and Easy Star label mates The Green.

The "Winter Greens Tour" promises to deliver a nice balance of classic Rebelution tracks alongside new favorites, supported by other leading roots bands including Katchafire from New Zealand, Gondwana from Chile, and Jeremy Loops from South Africa to round out the 30+ date run. Lastly, the band will be touring worldwide throughout the year with performances in Australia, the Philippines and Europe, with more to be announced. " More info »

THE SKINTS SIGN TO EASY STAR
"Reggae-dub four-piece The Skints, described by Clash Music as "the torchbearers for modern British reggae music," are pleased to announce their signing to prestigious New York City-based reggae label Easy Star Records.

Easy Star has steadily built a scene that extends in many directions, bringing together young producers, up-and-coming bands, reggae stars, and even artists outside the genre who have been influenced by Jamaican music, like Citizen Cope and blues musicologist Corey Harris. The independent label has created an impressive body of work that includes best-selling in-house productions from musical collective Easy Star All-Stars, along with progressive recordings, reissues of classic reggae, and collaborations with international reggae stars like Matisyahu, Luciano, Horace Andy and Morgan Heritage. The international progressive reggae scene that Easy Star has built continues to grow, thanks to label bands such as Rebelution, The Green, The Black Seeds, John Brown's Body, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, Passafire, and Cas Haley.

This year sees them make a proud addition to their roster in the form of The Skints, in a partnership that promises to further strengthen the reggae scene. The East London-based group, who mix Jamaican styles with pop hooks, grimey raps, filthy basslines and a punk-rock work ethic, released their first album, Live, Breathe, Build, Believe in 2010. Crossing the boundaries between the punk scene they grew up in and the reggae grooves they love, it proved to be a popular underground hit, and was followed in 2013 by their entirely crowdfunded sophomore LP Part and Parcel, produced by close friend and renowned producer Prince Fatty (Lily Allen, Hollie Cook).

Having whetted our appetites with the interim Short Change EP in 2014, which was released through their own imprint Penny Drop Recordings, The Skints have since been in the studio recording their highly anticipated third full-length. Now, following their new alliance with Easy Star, they are preparing for its release on 9th March in UK and 10th March in US (presale begins 2nd February, 2015 in UK and 3rd February in US).

The album sees Prince Fatty back in the producer's chair adding his signature take on the genre, and will feature a host of exciting guests including reggae legends Tippa Irie and Horseman, alongside grime MC Rival, with full details to be announced in the coming weeks.

Having finished 2014 in style, taking to the road on the Jägermeister Music Tour alongside Me First and The Gimme Gimmes and performing at London's historic Brixton Academy in the process, 2015 promises to be another heavy year for the four-piece. With a number of UK tour dates already confirmed for April, along with European and stateside plans coming to fruition, the wheels are well and truly in motion - and The Skints show no signs of slowing down.
