ABOUT SAMORY-I:

Samory-Tour Frazer, professionally known as Samory I, is a roots reggae singer hailing from Kingston, Jamaica. His voice has been described as unique, ethereal and eerie, and instantly evokes a wide range of emotions. An artist both in tune with the contemporary and appreciative of the classic, Samory I’s impassioned vocals often carry exalting messages with a spirit of rebellion.

Samory I grew up in Kencot, a rougher neighbourhood in Kingston, and was named after Samory Touré, a successful African ruler who fought against European colonization in the 19th century. Like his namesake, Samory I is a voice for the voiceless. From his 2017 debut album Black Gold with Jamaica’s renowned producer Rory “Stonelove” Gilligan, to his latest string of singles like “Love and Mercy” on the Winta James’ Gratitude Riddim, his messages of hope, pain, resilience and love resonate with the people. 

Samory I has always had a passion for music, as a child he sang every day. An ardent church goer, he performed at many church functions and brought the congregations to tears on many occasions. 

With the release of Black Gold In 2017, Samory I became a household name in the Reggae world.  The album received rave reviews and resulted in his breakout single “Rasta Nuh Gangsta” (over 9M views on YouTube), and featured singles “Black Gold,” “Son of David” and more.

Samory I released “Love And Mercy” on the Gratitude Riddim in April 2022, produced by Grammy-nominated producer Winta James. The two are currently working on recording Samory I’s next studio album, due 2023. 

Most recently, Samory I released the track “Life Is Amazing” featuring dancehall star Chi Ching Ching, a celebration of life and mother earth’s bountiful gifts. He also features on Protoje’s newest album Third Time’s The Charm on the closing track “Heavy Load”.

Samory I has consistently toured Europe every summer playing on major festivals such as Reggae SummerJam, Reggae Geel, and Rototom Sunsplash, as well as playing the club circuit. 

Samory I, in the prime of his life, is convinced that he has been summoned by the Almighty God with his God given talent to be a voice of Jah, to the people, proclaiming that reggae music is indeed the music of the King and a voice from God ready to guide and deliver His people.
